KAREN E.B. ELLIOTT
Restoring the Soul of Literature in Modern Culture
In an age where religion gets a bad, but often much-deserved reputation, Dr. Karen E. B. Elliott seeks to explore how classical and secular literature provides a profound space for soul-searching and critical reflection in the modern era. Mixing memoir with scholarship/research and personal anecdotes, Elliott strives to restore literary engagement and spiritual depth to cultural dialogue, as she and her students navigate the complexities of humanity, faith, and purpose.
"This book made me proud to be an author, and it renewed my belief that stories, from the simplest tales to the most complex classics, really are divine."
Emily Carpenter,
Bestselling author of Burying the Honeysuckle Girls and Gothictown
Dr. Karen E.B. Elliott has served preparatory and college students for 30 years. Through literature she and her students navigate their relevancy and faith in a technocratic world. Elliott holds an Ed.D. from Northeastern University, an M.A. from New York University, and a B.A. from Ithaca College. As a life-long learner, Elliott has also done intensive study throughout the years at Oxford University focusing on Shakespeare, Medieval English Literature, and Victorian Realism.
As a tenured literary professor, Elliott's doctoral and ongoing research explores revisiting pedagogical practices that leave space for critical thinking and self-reflection. Her work invites readers into conversations that help navigate humanity and faith in a culture saturated with incongruent discourse. She and her students search for meaning within a Western educational system that, she attests, has long outlived its purpose.
Dr. Elliott teaches graduate level courses preparing and mentoring the next generation of teachers. She also serves in preparatory schools/colleges with seniors and first-year university students as she seeks to prepare them to be change agents in a broken but beautiful world.
She loves her work and her students.
